Learn About HTML5 and the Future of the Web
San Francisco Java, PHP, and HTML5 user groups hosted an event on May 11th, 2010 on HTML5 with three amazing speakers: Brad Neuberg from Google, Giorgio Sardo from Microsoft, and Peter Lubbers from Kaazing. In this first of the three videos, Brad Neuberg from Google (formerly an HTML5 advocate and currently a Software Engineer on the Google Buzz team) explains why HTML5 matters – to consumers as well as developers! His overview of HTML5 included SVG/Canvas rendering, CSS transforms, app-cache, local databases, web workers, and much more. He also identified the scope and practical implications of the changes that are coming along with HTML5 support in modern browsers. This event was organized by Marakana, Michael Tougeron from Gamespot, and Bruno Terkaly from Microsoft. In less than 10 years, people will come up with HTML6 which will strip down many of these things from the HTML spec itself and separate it into another technologies, much like formatting tags and the birth of CSS.

H5 is garbage. Anything built in Javascript is unfortunately garbage with all due respect. JS is a cheap 2-bit hustler language designed w/ a purpose of rush development, which sits well for small apps but blows up when you code serious LOB apps. Better redesign HTML6 and equip it with a real world serious programming language like Java or C#, or stop trying to fool everyone with such silly “future” backwarded koolaid.

But the whole point on designing anything for the internet is the fact that it should not have to go through different iterations or ports to be of use on your desired hardware. Could you imagine someone saying this webpage doesn’t work on Intel based processors, redo the code? If you can’t understand something as simple as that then I can understand why Apple makes so much money. Blind fanboyism without a shred of common sense and or the ability to think for one self.
html5 is not there yet , even on a proper computer, flash is still the way to go, also your second chin is so distracting
@rancrooster because that kinda opens up the platform allowing free web-based apps to be installed a/o played so it essentially kills the app store on iOS which Steve Jobs doesn’t want to happen for obvious reasons. and to an extent it does kill battery life

@iBrent And half of the sites you’re testing are just DOM hacks. HTML5 relies on the Canvas for drawing to the screen. If you can highlight sections of the “web app” like an image, it’s not Canvas. Thus, it’s not HTML5.
@iBrent no one said anything about rewriting web pages. If the web developer didn’t rely on buggy, proprietary browser plugins, the site would be just fine.

YOU ARE NOT supposed to need an ipad version. flash on android lets flash work perfectly. people can use miniclip on a samsung galaxy tab, and people can even use flash websites on htc and google nexus phones.
It was kind of screwy that Steve Jobs pulled the cat out of the bag with HTML5 and as a standard, it’s not even really finished and there aren’t any apps that already have efficiency shortcuts built in for developers, most coders haven’t even gotten a chance to wrap their brains around some of the new things in HTML5 as yet.
Ironic, as this video won’t run in HTML5.

this video was funny as hell. Apple makes some good products, but in recent years the gap between the fanboy hype and the actual truth has become huge. The iPad looks cool and makes people who have one look cool(or a douchebag, depending on your perspective) as well, but the functionality is not there. Its like those cool looking modern art chairs that are uncomfortable as hell to sit in. I love my iMac, but instead of an iPad, ill take an idea pad any day.
